Rail Trails Forever: Making a Bequest

Include Rail Trails in your Will

Railtrails Australia, Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation promoting rail trails and assisting with their development. You can help us to develop rail trails through the Rail Trails Forever Program by including Railtrails Australia in your Will.

By including us in your Will, you are investing in the future, allowing the development and maintenance of rail trails to continue after you are gone.

It will be a lasting gift that gives pleasure to all who use the trails, and assist us in our mission of retaining former railway corridors as a public asset.

All bequests are welcome

You may wish to donate money, property, securities, shares or insurance policies. You can leave the balance of your estate after providing for the payment of funeral expenses, debts, liabilities and specific bequests to family and friends.

Why make a Will?

About one third of Australians die before making a Will. If you die before making a valid Will, the law will determine how your estate is to be distributed. It may not necessarily be distributed in the way you would have wanted.

How to make a Will

To be legally valid, Wills have to comply with certain legal requirements. It is therefore important that you seek advice when making a Will.

Most Public Trustees and many solicitors can prepare your Will free or for a small charge. They will ensure you Will is valid, sets out your wishes and makes adequate provision for your funeral expenses and family.

How you can assist Railtrails Australia

You can make a general, unrestricted gift to help Railtrails Australia, Inc. The clause should read:

"I give Railtrails Australia, Inc., PO Box 302, East Melbourne, Victoria 8002, Australia the sum of $............. (or if property, securities, shares etc. then describe the gift) to be used in such manner as its Executive determines. I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper officer for the time being of the said organisation shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executors for the said bequest."

or you can make a gift for a designated purpose, such as a gift directed to work on a particular rail trail. But we suggest you discuss this with a representative of the organisation first. In this case, replace "to be used in such manner as its Executive determines" with:

"to be used for the purpose of ............................................ (describe the purpose you want the gift used for), but if such purpose cannot in the opinion of the Executive be achievable then the gift is to be used in such manner as the Executive determines."

Feel Free to Contact Us

If you wish to include us in your Will, we will be pleased to meet you and discuss your bequest. We would enjoy the opportunity to discuss with you future projects worthy of your support. It may be possible to recognise your gift in some permanent way such as a plaque or dedication.

If your solicitor has any queries we can assist. Please contact us on (03) 9306 4846, by email to . We would love to hear from you.
