Grand Ridge Rail Trail - Trail Description![]() Cyclists on the second Annual Trail Ride to Mirboo North in 1999. Karen Hunt Location: Strzelecki Ranges, South Gippsland, 160km from Melbourne Start/end: Boolarra to Mirboo North Length open: 10km Surface: Gravel DescriptionDue to a bushfire (Jan 2009) burning out the two major bridges this trail is mostly closed until repair works are completed
It is possible to use the trail from Mirboo North to Darlimurla Station, a distance of about six km. From Boolarra it is possible to use about four km heading back toward Mirboo North. Between the bridges, clearing of dead and dangerous trees in the adjacent plantation is continuing, making it too hazardous to use this part of the trail. A very pleasant forest trail in the heart of Gippsland. It passes several flora reserves and through impressive cuttings (admire the brickwork in the culverts) and crosses large embankments. It climbs up to Mirboo North where there is a boutique brewery, a good bakery and colourful historical murals depicting the town’s past, including one of the last train. News Items
