Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail - Trail Description![]() Looking towards Mt Hotham near Eurobin Damian McCrohan Location: North East Victoria, 250km from Melbourne Start/end: Wangaratta to Beechworth/Bright and Rutherglen to Wahgunyah Region: Northern Victoria, Victoria Length open: 105km Surface: Sealed DescriptionThe most developed of Victorian rail trails with a sealed surface for its entire distance! It is in two sections distinct sections. (There is a significant on-road gap between the two sections at this stage.) Wangaratta to Bright/Beechworth (97km)This section of the rail trail follows the picturesque Ovens Valley and has beautiful views of Mt Buffalo as it heads to the popular resort town of Bright.At Everton it also branches off and a good climb leads to the historic town of Beechworth. Nothing beats the real thing but if you can't get there take a virtual tour of the Myrtleford to Eurobin section of the trail if you have the Google Earth program. Steve Howard from Cowra has prepared this including drawing a line along the rail trail to make it clearer. Rutherglen to Wahgunyah (8km)This section opened in 2009 and links the historic town of Rutherglen with the Murray River town of Wahgunah, passing through the famous wine region. News Items
