Ballarat - Skipton Rail Trail - Trail Description![]() Nimons Bridge Sylvia Mclean (2007) Location: South west of Ballarat, 110km from Melbourne Start/end: Ballarat to Skipton Region: Western Victoria, Victoria Length open: 55km Surface: Gravel DescriptionThe trail goes through significant remnant native grasslands at the Ballarat and Skipton ends of the trail, and 17 notable bird species have been recorded. There are also historical gold mining sites. An impressive trestle bridge near Newtown is open for trail users. The end of 2008 saw this rail trail reborn with new surface that is wider and surfaced with granitic sand. New bollards have been installed to discourage unwanted traffic. New history/signage boards have been installed too. Nimon's Bridge is a real treat. The trail varies from open farmland to forest between Linton and Pittong Eventually the trail will continue to Lake Wendouree in Ballarat. The committe of management is formed by the Golden Plains Shire, the City of Ballarat and the Corangamite Shire. (last updated Jul 2009) News Items
