Alexander McCooke Location: Clare Valley, north of Adelaide, 130km from Adelaide Start/end: Auburn to Barinia Region: South Australia Length open: 34km Surface: Gravel ![]() DescriptionThis trail passes through a landscape of rolling hillsides, vineyards, wildflowers in spring and wild olive trees. Allow plenty of time to leave the trail and explore the Clare valley wineries. The trail is easily cycled one way in about two hours. From the former Clare rail yards it runs south through wine growing regions to Auburn. The trail leaves the railway formation for a short distance at Auburn, following the main road to the old railway station, now the home of Mount Horrocks Wines. From Auburn the rail trail continues on as the Rattler rail trail to Riverton. Click here for more information on the Rattler Rail Trail. This trail was recently extended north of Clare to Barinia. An historic bridge over Farrell Flat Road has had safety rails installed. See the photo gallery. The trail is managed by the SA Office of Recreation and Sport. News Items
