Lapstone Zig Zag - Trail DescriptionLocation: Blue Mountains, 60km from Sydney Start/end: Car park signposted from motorway (Emu Plains exit) Region: Sydney and Blue Mountains, New South Wales and ACT DescriptionThe Lapstone Zig Zag was constructed in the 1860's to allow trains to overcome the obstacle presented by Lapstone Hill. Zig zags are a technique used by railway builders to gain height, but require trains to reverse up one of the zig zag's thee legs. The zig zag which includes an impressive viaduct over Knapsack Gully is now open to walkers.From Lapstone you can also follow a rough track to the mouth of the Old Glenbrook Tunnel.
