Rail Trails for NSW had an information stand at the Sydney Spring Cycle event held on Sunday 18th October 2015.  This annual event attracts around 10,000 cyclists, doing different distances around the streets of Sydney, and all finishing at the Homebush Olympic Park.  The RT4NSW information stand was one of many stands at the finish of the event, and most of the cyclists taking part, wandered past the various exhibits after they finished their ride.  The stand was manned by John Moore, Tim Coen and 8 other volunteers, including John O'Brien and Kathy Furney from Rail Trails Australia.  People were given information about what a rail trail is, and also about the lack of rail trails in NSW.  Information packs were also handed out to interested people, with details of how to lobby the NSW government to change the rules and allow rail trails to be built on some of the disused railway lines in the state.  The group estimated they spoke to more than 600 people on the day and gave out more than 150 information packs.

RT4NSW has also decided to form a friends group, and they were asking people to become a friend of RT4NSW for a $5 donation (or about the price of a cup of coffee).  This is to help cover some of the costs that the volunteer group has incurred out of their own pocket during the campaign, which  was launched in March 2014 at NSW Parliament House.  Anyone joining before 2nd November will go into the draw to win a pushbike which was donated by 99Bikes.  You can become a friend by direct deposit $5 or more into the RT4NSW account.  BSB:  032-134, Account No: 303230, Account name: Rail Trails for NSW Inc. and then give your name, phone number and email by going onto This email address is being protected from spambots.
