The Adelaide Hills Council has identified an extension of the Adelaide Hills Amy Gillett Rail Trail as a Priority Project to kickstart recovery in a community still reeling from the Cuddlee Creek bushfires and now facing the devastating impact on tourism of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On 9 April, Hills Voice stated: “The Council will be seeking a total of $9 million from Government for 3 components of the extension: Balhannah to Hahndorf, Mount Torrens to Birdwood, Birdwood to Mount Pleasant. These new sections of the rail trail are expected to form part of the proposed Wine Capital Cycle Trail spanning 250 kilometres and four world renowned South Australian wine regions".
