Peel Alliance state budget requests web MAPThe Peel Alliance (comprising Mandurah, Murray, Serpentine-Jarrahdale, Waroona and Boddington Councils) has recently released their FUTURE PEEL State funding submission. Focusing on a variety of infrastructure, jobs and tourism initiatives, the document identifies two significant rail trail opportunities, both within a short drive of the Perth metropolitan area.

The first of these is the proposed Hotham Valley Rail Trail, between Dwellingup and Boddington in the Darling Scarp. At around 40 km long, the proposed trail would run along the alignment of the former Pinjarra–Narrogin railway. The project would involve reinstatement Tullis Bridge, built in 1912 and destroyed by fire in 2009.

The second proposed rail trail extends from Mundijong to Jarrahdale, extending the existing Jarrahdale 1872 Timber Tramway, and would eventually provide Jarrahdale with a link to Perth’s Principal Shared Path (PSP) network. The construction of this rail trail would help build Jarrahdale’s reputation as a ‘trails town’ and further cement the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale as the equine hub of Western Australia.
