One year on from the opening of the TRRT, the local economy is experiencing significant growth with visitor numbers exponentially increased, existing businesses thriving and new businesses opening. The locals explain that the TRRT has had an overwhelming positive impact on the community.

“We are seeing overnight stays and holidaying increase so much that it has led to the opening of nine new businesses in our area to cater for the increased tourism from the rail trail” said Ken Dale, President of the Tumbarumba Chamber of Commerce.

While visitors come to cycle the trail, they stay in town, explore other attractions, support local businesses and then visit again with friends and family. Local business owners say that the rail trail is bringing a constant flow of visitors and with it, hope and business confidence.

The video has been produced By Rail Trails Australia in collaboration with Bicycle NSW and Rail Trails for NSW to document the local economic benefits of rail trails. The video is freely available and can be used by you to show community members and local councils how a rail trail in your area can build local economies.
