Media release:

South Burnett Regional Council Manager of Council Facilities, Kerry Mercer, said that 75ml had fallen in the area on Tuesday, and it was unlikely that Council would move heavy machinery into the area until Wednesday 18 August. Maintenance works are expected to take two weeks, during which time the section will be closed to the public. The trail will remain open to the public until the work commences.

The trail will reopen in time for the official opening of Active Trails of Blackbutt and the extension of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail to Nukku Road, which coincides with the Bloomin Beautiful Blackbutt Festival on 12 September.

When completed in 2012 the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail will be among the longest rail trails in Australia. Currently sections are open from Linville to Blackbutt, Fernvale to Lowood and Ottaba to Toogoolawah. The trail will provide walkers, cyclists and horse riders an opportunity to experience the history and landscape of the Brisbane River Valley.

For further information contact Council’s Nanango Customer Service Centre on 07-4171 6800.
