Thankyous to all helpers and contributors of the trail over the years was acknowledged by Ian Bodycoat, the management-secretary of the rail trail committee.

Deputy Premier, Peter Ryan, spoke enthusiastically about rail trails and his experiences of them over the past few years. Together with Ian Bodycoat and Stuart Pyers (Chairman of the rail trail committee), he unveiled a plaque commemorating the completion of the trail. All the speakers, together with two school children, then  jumped down from the platform to cut a red ribbon across the trail. A group of school children and local bicycle groups rode along the trail to the accompaniment of cheering and applause.
