50,000th person on the Tumbarumba rail trail
Rail Trails Australia congratulates Ray Davies, who became the 50,000th person to go past the Tumbarumba rail trail counter. The milestone for the Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail (TRRT) was achieved on Sunday 5 February 2023, and was celebrated later in the day with an informal picnic for TRRT supporters at the Figures Street trail head.
Ray received a TRRT mug and magnet for being the 50,000th. The mementos were presented to Ray by Cathy Fitzgerald and Debbie Grant from the TRRT group. Ray, who is nearly 80, lives in the Tumbarumba area and is often on the TRRT and other rail trails on his e-bike.
Rail Trails Australia appreciates the work done over many years by the local TRRT group led by Owen Fitzgerald to plan and develop the Tumbarumba rail trail. The trail opened in April 2020 and has paved the way for more rail trails in NSW through its demonstrated success as a tourism asset.
