Adelaide Hills Rail Trail Link Open
A 500 metre “missing link” behind the Woodside shops linking the Oakbank – Woodside and Woodside – Charleston sections was opened in June 2012. This new section gives trail users the opportunity to avoid riding with the traffic on the often busy Onkarparinga Valley Road through Woodside. The link is from Langbein Av to Verco Rd in Woodside.
In other good news, work on Stage Three of the Adelaide Hills Amy Gillett Rail Trail project will begin later this year, providing a sealed path in the Adelaide Hills all the way from Oakbank to Mt Torrens.
Minister for Transport, Patrick Conlon, says $2 million has been secured for Stage Three, which will take the existing path from Charleston through to Mount Torrens.
” Not only is it exciting news for the community, but a fitting tribute to a wonderful South Australian ambassador in Amy Gillett,” he said. ” The Amy Gillett Bikeway is one of the most picturesque routes in the State and I encourage all South Australian cyclists to travel along this unique pathway.”
Mr Conlon said funding for Stage Three, which will extend the trail approximately 7km, was received through the Planning and Development Fund and is a key component of the Governments cycling initiatives.
” The State Government is passionate about cycling and the ways in which we can improve safety and connectivity, while promoting the health benefits of cycling,” he said ” When complete, the 32km shared-use path which runs along the former rail corridor will link six Adelaide Hills towns from Oakbank to Mt Pleasant, increasing tourism in the area and providing benefits for local producers and small businesses.”
