The Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail has a new attraction – a restored NSW Railways guard’s van.
Located at the Figures Street trail head, the guard’s van has been meticulously restored by members of the Tumbarumba Men’s Shed. Through their combined efforts across all types of skills, the guard’s van has been restored to authentic as-new condition, both outside and inside.
The van was moved in July 2024 from its restoration site at the Men’s Shed to the trail head, and is now located in a purpose-built platform area near the start of the trail. The van contains a range of museum items and photographs and is open to the public. This is the latest addition to Tumbarumba railway memorabilia, which includes the restored workers’ hut and gates at Figures Street, platforms and station signs at Glenroy and Rosewood, and static displays and interpretive signage at all four station sites.
The restored guard’s van will be formally opened on Sunday 17 November 2024. A market day will be held at the Figures Street trail head from 11am to 2pm. Entry is free, and all the volunteer groups who were involved in the van’s restoration will be there. For more information and key contacts, click on this Visit NSW link.
