Register for news updatesAustralia’s Newest Rail Trail Officially Opens
The Waranga Rail Trail was completed by Campaspe Shire Council when it connected 11km of trail with the 8km trail from Murchison which was constructed by the City of Greater Shepparton. A special feature on the trail is the installation of 25 nesting boxes by Rushworth Field and Game Club.
This fantastic initiative supports local native wildlife and gives trail users a chance to witness conservation first-hand. Congratulations to all those involved in the opening of Australia’s newest rail trail! Read more about the opening here.

I went to Murchison by train and was extremely annoyed that there were no signs to the start of the trail.
Sorry to whinge but it was just about a waste of a day…
I agree, we rode from Rushworth to Murchison on Monday. We commented that there were no signs, that we could see, in Murchison to find the trailhead. Just lucky that we started at the other end. BUT, The bakery in Murchison is awesome. Even do a selection of gluten-free cakes. Happy me.
