The Barossa Marathon on Sunday 23 August was a great success with perfect weather, light
winds and a record 3,500 competitors taking part in the 4 distance options, with all options
selling out. A 10km wheelchair option was included for the first time.
Both the full marathon and half marathon used a 1.4km part of the Barossa Rail Trail between
Light Pass Rd and Research Rd (Nuriootpa). Nearly 2,000 runners used the trail on their
return leg with the 554 full marathon competitors running the route twice.
Family, friends and supporters were out in force to cheer on competitors.
The Barossa Rail Trail was open for normal business early afternoon and all signage and bollards
were quickly removed.
