The Indigo Shire Council reported in their “Indigo Weekly Update” (28 June 2019) that the Beechworth to Yackandandah Rail Trail Community Reference Group inspected the Section 2 route of the trail by foot on Sunday 23 June 2019. The Reference Group was joined by their families, Councillor Larry Goldsworthy and Rail Trails Australia Secretary Frank Kinnersley.
Section 2 will link Yackandandah to Osbornes Flat. It will travel along beautiful Yackandandah Creek, accessing some areas currently blocked by woody weeds, blackberry and fencing boundaries. Detailed design will begin in July, to enable the tendering and construction to occur in Spring/Summer 2019/20. Thanks was extended to the Bike Hire Company’s Nigel and Kay Walker who bussed the group around the area.
The construction and sealing tender for Section 1 – Peach Drive to Kibell Lane, and Section 3 – Factory and Fanning Lanes has been advertised. The works are planned to start in August and are expected to be completed in Spring.
This extension of Murray to Mountains rail trail will bring approximately 31km of family friendly trail through pristine bush land and open spaces taking in ancient aboriginal sites, local farm gate produce, gold mining history and magnificent views.
