The Boorowa to Galong Rail Trail group in south-western NSW has obtained funding to conduct a rail trail feasibility study, an important step towards their ultimate goal.
Funding has been provided by the Galong Progress Association and the Hilltops Council. Rail Trails Australia acknowledges and thanks both organisations for their contributions to this project.
Boorowa Galong Rail Trail Inc. have engaged Mike Halliburton Associates and Transplan Pty Ltd to carry out a feasibility study of the Boorowa Galong RT. Mike Halliburton and Transplan were presenters at the Rail Trail Forum in Tumbarumba in April 2021.
The Boorowa to Galong proposed rail trail is 29km in length, and is located just over one hour’s drive north of Canberra and around 3 hours from Sydney. It would become the nearest significant rail trail to Sydney on an ex-Government rail corridor. The proposed rail trail features cuttings, curves and timber bridges as it makes its way northeast from Galong toward Boorowa.
