It’s taken 11 years to complete the project all the way from Wulkuraka in Ipswich to Yarraman, but finally the job is done.
Toogoolawah to Moore is the jewel in the crown of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. Somerset Regional Council did a magnificent job of coordinating the project.
Let’s have a Party!!!
It’s a multiuser trail so everyone is invited. Walkers, runners, horse riders, cyclists and any other members of our rail trail community.
Programe as follows,
Big brekkie in the tradition of the olden days put on by the Moore Memorial Hall committee in Moore. It will be like a street party with live music. Followed by a multifaith blessing of the rail trail by Fr Ian Bailey and an unveiling of an interpretive sign by Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann with a history of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail in Moore station.
Then everyone sets off in a long cavalcade for Toogoolawah. Fancy dress is optional, but let’s have some fun. The new section from Moore to Toogoolawah is the jewel in the crown as it winds through spectaular Queensland country. You need to ride it or walk it or run it or cycle it to fully celebrate it.
Runners and walkers will have the option of doing the whole 30 km or doing just 15 km from Harlin. Cyclists can either do it both ways or one way from Moore to Toogoolawah.
The horse trail ride will be led and managed by the Brisbane Valley Trail Riders club. Take your horse floats to Moore. Ride back to Toogoolawah (30 km). Leave your horses in the showgrounds. We’ll provide shuttle transport back to Moore in the afternoon to collect your floats in a minibus. The horse ride will stop for lunch at the Harlin Hotel – $15 lunch options organised plus water and safe tie-up area for horses.
There will be free water and snack caches at the two underpasses along the way and 4×4 support vehicles on call nearby if anyone needs assistance.
On arrival in Toogoolawah, the markets will be in full swing until 2.00 pm with more live music Plenty to eat and drink in the markets and local cafes. Be sure to check out the great exhibition at the Somerset Art Gallery and the pop-up history of the Brisbane Valley trail line in the museum at the old station.
Why not make a weekend of it and stay overnight? There’s plenty of accommodation available in the local area.
Please pay attention to the next bit, because the transport logistics of moving everyone around for this multiuser event are complicated.
Cyclists: You will have the option of cycling to Moore and back under your own pedal power (60 km) or we’ll provide transport to Moore and then you can pedal back (30 km)
Walkers and Runners: Transport to Moore for the big brekkie and then the option of doing the whole 30 km or just 15 km. We’ll organise transport to Harlin for everyone who just wants to do the 15 km from there to Toogoolawah, including the heritage listed Yimbun Tunnel.
Equestrians. The horse ride will be organised by Brisbane Valley Trail Riders. Take your horse floats to Moore. Ride back to Toogoolawah (30 km). Leave your horses in the showgrounds. We’ll provide shuttle transport back to Moore in the afternoon to collect your floats in minibuses.
Just want to join in the fun without doing the trail? You can register for the big brekkie and come along to the party.
This event will be partly subsidised by our sponsors, but there will be a nominal fee as a contribution to help cover food and transport costs. This event will be partly subsidised by our sponsors, but there will be a nominal fee as a contribution to help cover food and transport costs.
