Great news for rail trail enthusiasts! A construction tender has been awarded to kick off the next phase of the Wadandi Track expansion, in Western Australia, bringing one of Australia’s longest rail trails a major step closer to completion.
Common Ground Trails Pty Ltd will deliver approximately 24km of new track, extending the existing route north from Miamup Rd, Cowaramup to Yelverton Rd (13km), and south from Sebbes Rd, Forrest Gve through the stunning Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park to Maze Rd, Karridale (11km).
Construction is set to begin within the coming months, with further tenders for the remaining sections expected later this year.
Currently stretching 46km between Busselton Jetty and Carbunup River, and Cowaramup and Forrest Gve, the Wadandi Track already offers riders and walkers a spectacular mix of coastal views, forests, farmland and vineyards.
Once finished, it will form a magnificent continuous trail of almost 110km, following the historic railway corridor all the way from Busselton Jetty to Flinders Bay in Augusta.
Backed by $17.5 million in funding as part of WA’s $165 million Outdoor Adventure Tourism package, this project promises an unforgettable journey through the South West — while also giving locals a safe, scenic way to connect between towns on 2 wheels or on foot!
