Register for news updatesCouncil Endorses Wagga Rail Trail: A Win for Community Vision
Wagga Wagga City Council voted on Monday 26 May to formally endorse the Wagga Rail Trail concept and potential establishment of a project Steering Committee, marking a crucial milestone in the journey to bring the vision of a community rail trail to life.
Council also endorsed investigation into extending the highly successful Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail, from Rosewood to Humula.
A comprehensive report outlining the trail route, development process, costs, benefits and risks has been three years in the making and was presented to Councillors. The Humula extension takes in the Downfall, a “hidden gem” section of track that looped around to enable trains to climb the hill to Rosewood and will increase the length of the Tumbarumba rail trail by around 23km.
A sincere thanks goes to all the RTA members that rallied for the cause, sending messages of support to Councillors. They were absolutely overwhelmed with supportive emails, with one Councillor commenting that this is the issue that has attracted the greatest show of community support in her 4 years as a Councillor.
