Stage 5 of the trail along the former Mt Pleasant railway corridor is 8.4 km long and located within the two council areas. Adelaide Hills Council is responsible for the 4.7 km section from Birdwood to Randell Road with Barossa Council responsible for the 3.7 km section from Randell Road to Mt Pleasant.
Barossa Council has allocated $100,000 in its 2025/2026 draft budget to clear vegetation and construct a rubble path on its section from Randell Road to Mt Pleasant, making it suitable for walkers and gravel bike riders. They plan to seek future funding to seal this section.

Very much looking forward to riding on the completed extension to Birdwood. Fantastic that there is a chance that it will be further extended to Mt. Pleasant.

Good work Barossa Council. Doing something at the northern end can only encourage the funding to fill in the gap. Mt Torrens to Birdwood seems nearly finished now – some bridge work to go, and a bit of signposting and road marking.
Section from Mt Torrens to Birdwood is looking really good.
