Register for news updatesEudunda Hampden Rail Trail Officially Opened
The official opening of the Eudunda Hampden Rail Trail was held on 11 April at the Eudunda Centenary Gardens, conveniently located at the commencement of the new section of the trail.
The 4 km extension of the trail gradually rises 56m and passes through several rocky cuttings and over many steep valleys. The trail now forms part of the 300 km Lavender Cycling Trail and 325 km Lavender Walking Trail.
The opening ceremony was attended by 180 cyclists and walkers who took the opportunity to travel the new trail and further along the Lavender Trail once the formal opening concluded. The age of participating cyclists ranged from a spritely 89 years, riding a
recumbent, to an active 4-year-old on a well decorated bike. The day was enjoyed by all, particularly the elderly Eudunda residents who travelled the new trail in a golf cart. They reminisced about using the train to travel to Adelaide many years ago and they were so pleased that the railway line was once again being used by the Eudunda community and tourists.
The trail extension was made possible thanks to a Federal Government grant and additional support and works from the Regional Council of Goyder.
