Register for news updatesFloral Mosaics Completed After Rail Trails Australia Grant
A grant from the 2025-2026 Rail Trails Australia Community Grants program has funded 5 original mosaics depicting edible natives along the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail in North East Victoria.
The area covers approximately 1.6km alongside the rail trail on the eastern approach to Myrtleford.
The mosaics, made by The Crackpots, have been installed, and assorted native species will be planted including the feature plants:
Midgen/Midyim berry (Austromyrtus dulcis)
Lemon bottle brush (Callistemon pallidus)
Pigface (Carpobrotus rossii)
Lilly Pilly species (Syzgium & Acmena spp.)
Geraldton Wax Flower (Chamelaucium uncinatum)
Myrtleford Landcare also received grants from GROW Myrtleford and Tourism North East to cover additional costs for the bush food plants, signage and installation costs. Alpine Shire has generously assisted with hard landscaping and mulch, and Myrtleford Landcare collaborated with a local quarry who donated the rocks that the mosaics are affixed to.
Myrtleford Landcare intends to plant the mulched sites in September/early spring. They have sourced the feature species depicted on the mosaics, plus, to avoid a monoculture, will plant other natives in each bed.
