The South Australian state government has announced $1 million in funding to build the first stage of the Adelaide Hills Rail Trail

Congratulations to the Adelaide Hills Rail Trail Committee and the Adelaide Hills Council for their ongoing efforts to establish this potentially wonderful rail trail.
Thanks should also be extended to the state government for their support by contacting the Premier’s department.

- “Today I am announcing a new 32 km shared use path through the Adelaide Hills from Oakbank to Mount Pleasant. Initial funding of $1M will be provided to complete 5 km stage 1 of the trail from Oakbank to Woodside. As funds become available, further stages will be completed.
“We plan to name this new bike-way through some of the most popular and picturesque areas of the Hills after Adelaide cyclist Amy Gillett, who was tragically killed in Germany in 2005,” Mr Rann said.
“The path will be established on a disused rail-line, and will provide a safe, new route through this popular cycling area.
