World Trails Day is celebrated annually on the first Saturday in June. Organised by overseas-based World Trails Network, it’s a day to recognise and honour the many ways trails enrich our lives – from connecting us with nature to supporting our health and wellbeing.
Here in Australia, we are incredibly lucky to have over 3000 km of operating rail trails: many of which are the result of thousands and thousands of volunteer hours from committed community members as well as councils and the input of Rail Trails Australia. This is a chance to get out and celebrate them!
World Trails Network suggests marking the occasion by sharing your favourite trail, thanking a trail volunteer, or simply heading out for a walk, run or ride on your local trail.
This World Trails Day we’d love you to head to your local rail trail and tell us all about it! Tag Rail Trails Australia and World Trails Network on Facebook and Instagram, using #WorldTrailsDay to join the global conversation.
