Register for news updatesLong Weekend Working Bees on High Country Rail Trail
The January 2026 bushfires in Victoria’s Upper Murray tore through large sections of the High Country Rail Trail, destroying 14 of the 16 remaining historic timber trestle bridges and causing damage to the vegetation adjacent to the trail.
The DEECA Forest Fires team have removed hazardous trees along the trail and Parklands Albury Wodonga is now asking for “hands on the ground” to help repair and replace some of the 35km of fences that were damaged, and they’re asking volunteers to “roll up your sleeves and let’s get the trail re-opened!”

Did there save the two big bigs near the Shelly end of the trail, I think there was one big wooden bridge and maybe one less big bridge?
