On 2 September, a very excited and proud Castlemaine-Maryborough Rail Trail group celebrated the announcement that they have been awarded a Victorian Government Enabling Tourism Fund grant of $400,000 to complete the pre-construction stage of the rail trail. Janice Simpson, CMRT President is absolutely delighted and explains that getting this grant means they are well and truly of their way to creating a world-class leisure trail.
CMRT will have a shovel-ready project by January, 2026. While the group completes the pre-construction stage, they will be keeping an eye out for capital investors for the third and final stage.
CMRT acknowledges their local Members of Parliament Martha Haylett (Ripon) and Maree Edwards (Bendigo West), Mt Alexander and Central Goldfields Councils, and to the Community Bank Avoca and St Arnaud for their support with funds and advocacy. They are also sending a big shout out to all their volunteers who helped with the campaign and to the many donors who contributed funds to CMRT which they list on their website.
