Long-standing rail trail supporter Ms Rosamund Lesley Heit has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division. Listed in her achievements was her work as Treasurer, South Burnett Rail Trail Users Association. Ros, currently Deputy Mayor of South Burnett Regional Council, in Queensland, is a true rail trail advocate. According to RTA regional rep Queensland, Mark Linnett, Ros has been a very keen supporter of the South Burnett Rail Trail (Kilkivan-Kingaroy Rail Trail) from way back in 2014 era and regularly promotes the benefits of rail trails. She has also been the chair of Wondai parkrun (run on the rail trail) since its inception in 2017!
Debbie Harris received a Special Achievement Award at the Tumbarumba Australia Day awards, presented by fellow rail trail enthusiast and 2025 OAM recipient Owen Fitzgerald OAM. Debbie’s citation was: “For her long term commitment, leadership and positive influence. Her contributions have strengthened community organisations, enhanced local events, improved the visibility of Tumbarumba and supported countless individuals.” Debbie is frequently promoting the Riverina Highlands (Tumbarumba) Rail Trail in NSW.
