The Rosewater Rail Loop in Adelaide was constructed in 1915 to alleviate congestion in the Port Dock rail yards and is no longer in use. The Port Adelaide Enfield Council has proposed the redevelopment of the loop into a 5km rail trail. The project will also redevelop the unused Port Dock rail yards for recreation use.
The Council is now seeking funding from the State Government to develop a master plan for the project and funding assistance for the construction of the project.
The rail trail will enhance cycling and walking access within the suburb of Rosewater and provide good access to the Port Dock precinct. The proposed rail trail will link with the Outer Harbour Rail Trail and the Port Expressway cycle trail.
The loop was last used as a rail line in 2008 and has not been maintained since.
