Rushworth Murchison Rail Trail Project Update
Campaspe Shire Council, who are the project leads on the Rushworth Murchison Rail Trail in Northern Victoria, recently updated the community on the project’s status as of July 2023. Council have been engaging with key stakeholder groups on the design of the wayfinding and interpretative signage.
The update also included the following information :
Council is hopeful that a planning permit in July 2023 will be obtained and following this will tender for four different elements of works.
- In partnership with the Victorian Fishing Association (VFA) there will be native vegetation removal.
- Six bridge repairs which includes 2 X deck replacements and balustrading.
- Starting at the Rushworth end, asphalt path works.
- From Bendigo Murchison Road gravel path construction.
The completion date, according to the Campaspe Shire Council website, is now June 2024.

This rail trail will become important, once completed in 2024, to link Murchison East (Shepparton?) V/Line station to Rushworth to Heathcote's O'Keefe Rail Trail, and to Bendigo's V/Line station. Keep focussed Campaspe Shire, for a timely and quality outcome.
