Register for news updatesTen Kilometre Surface Upgrade for BVRT
Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (BVRT) trail manager Qld Department of Transport and Main Roads has just completed a 10km surface upgrade starting at the base of the climb just out of Linville, in the Brisbane Valley, where the trail begins its ascent of the Great Dividing Range towards Blackbutt.
The trail here has been resurfaced with a compacted clay/gravel composite and the 4 gullies have been significantly upgraded making them much safer and accessible for trail users.
A common question asked by visitors to the 161km-long rail trail is, “which is the most scenic section?” The common answer is, “the section between Linville and Blackbutt.” However this section also has the greatest elevation gain (330m over an unbroken 20km bumpy climb at an average gradient of 2%), and 4 challenging gullies with steep and loose gravel approaches. Consequently many trail users choose not to cycle this section or not to return to this section after doing it once.
What remains after this welcomed rectification is the long, steady climb, the docile cattle that call the trail home, the fantastic views as the trail ascends the Range and the marvellous Benarkin State Forest that encompasses the trail as it rises above the valley. It truly is the most scenic part of the rail trail and is now accessible to many more trail users.

We rode the whole trail just after this section was completed. It is definately a great surface now, allowing users to view the beautiful scenery without fear of tripping or crashing.Hopefully something similar could be done on the last section of the trail into Yarraman which is in parts more of a goat track.
