After years of planning and construction, the newest rail trail in Victoria, Waranga Rail Trail, opens for users on Tuesday 1 April.
Its completion provides the local region with a 19 km rail trail following the alignment of the decommissioned railway line from Rushworth to Murchison. The trail traverses through beautiful bushland and the scenic Waranga Basin. The townships at each end – Rushworth and Murchison – both have excellent bakeries, shops, picnic areas and amenities.
Campaspe Council is also developing Waranga Rail Trail signage in conjunction with Greater Shepparton City Council and key Rushworth stakeholder groups, these will be installed in the coming months.
The official opening will be held on Saturday, 17 May at 10 am in conjunction with the community market. Further updates can be found here https://www.campaspe.vic.gov.au/Plan-build/Works-projects/Waranga-Rail-Trail.

I'd like to get there by train. Is there a safe rideable connection from Murchison East?
When I was riding in the area a few years ago (2017), there was a mostly off road trail that sometimes used the access street, that ran parallel to the main road between Murchison East and Murchison Road. From the Murchison East station, head south, cross the main road (Bendigo – Murchison Rd / High Rd), the path started about there and goes all the way into Murchison. From the Murchison shops, if a trail connection hasn't been made yet, you will need to ride along Bendigo – Murchison Rd a few blocks then keep going straight into Robinson St. Then turn right into Station St, then bear left onto Impey St. The rail trail started at the end of Impey St when I last rode it.
Another rail trail in Victoria – can't wait to try it.
