Over the past decade the City of Mount Gambier in South Australia, with assistance from the State Government, has progressively transformed the unused rail corridor through the centre of the city into a 9.4km rail trail and redeveloped the four-hectare railway station site into a parkland area.

In December 2019 a bushfire spread through the hills and valleys around the Amy Gillett Rail Trail resulting in the loss of life and substantial damage to property and vegetation. Twelve months later, regrowth is occurring and the local community is pulling together to return to something near normal. In February, the Adelaide Hills Council held a ‘Festival of the Hills’ event which created an atmosphere of enjoyment, full of music, light, colour and entertainment.

Rail Trails Australia participated in a cycle tourism presentation hosted by federal Parliamentary Friends of Cycling Today, a bipartisan group of Federal MPs who are riders and interested in cycling issues. The presentation focused on rail trails and was organised by We Ride Australia, a cycling industry-led group.

The Rokeby Crossover Friends Group is holding the 2021 Twilight Fun Run featuring the Rokeby to Crossover Rail Trail and Crossover Regional Park in Victoria's Gippsland area.

Cycle Dindi is returning to the scenic Great Victorian Rail Trail (GVRT) on Saturday, 17 April.
