Northern Territory
The Northern Territory has several rail trails that are part of the former Northern Australian Railway. Some other railway stations have survived including Pine Creek and Adelaide River. It is possible to walk along the old right of way at these locations.
The Alice Springs - Darwin railway opened in 2004 and parts of the new railway were placed on the old North Australian Railway alignment. However some parts of the old line were bypassed and remain in the bush. The new railway runs to the Darwin suburb of Palmerston and then to the port. It does not go into the centre of town leaving the remaining section of the old railway as a rail trail.
If you are aware of any further sections of this railway that are accessible then please email us at the address in the Contact Us section.
