The Liffey Falls trail takes you past one of the state’s most attractive cascading waterfalls. The trail can be walked from either the upper car park, where there are picnic tables, toilets and water, or the lower car park, which is essentially just a trailhead. The lower end of the trail is narrower but well formed and follows the route of an old tramway used for timber hauling in the early 1900s.
The falls are reached via a gravel road with sharp bends. Take care on this road.

- The Upper Liffey Falls track connects the Lake Highway just below Projection Bluff.
- The Falls lookout is just by the road.
- The track continues on to the summit of Projection Bluff which is above the lookout.
- The lookout is usually just below the snowline.
- The upper falls are a further two kilometres along the Lake Highway towards The Great Lake.
- The lower falls are a two hour walk from this point and are also accessible by 2 wheel drive.

One review of “Liffey Falls Rail Trail”
Annoyingly we visited Liffey Falls on Friday but did not realise there was a rail trail here at the time. It was only the next day when I saw the entry on the website here. Certainly no rail trail or bike signage at the Liffey Falls car park apart from a sign with a bicycle symbol saying “Route 7” that we had no idea what it refers to. We drove in from the Liffey side but the main car park can also be arrived from the A5 which connects to Deloraine and is an easier and shorter drive apart from the road down to the car park itself which is twisty and narrow.
Would definitely have ridden from the lower car park if we had known it was a rideable track and saved ourselves the 20km drive. We assume it starts from the campground we saw a sign post to.
