Stage Two of the multimillion-dollar Caboolture to Wamuran Rail Trail project is well underway and community excitement is building.
The $7 million Rail Trail project, jointly funded by Moreton Bay Regional Council and the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads, is set to be a bonanza for tourism, guaranteed to bring people from across the region and the state.
It will deliver a 10.5km long cycling and walking link extending from Beerburrum Road, Caboolture to Atwood Street, Wamuran – attracting cyclists, walkers and joggers to enjoy the picturesque hinterland.
Last month, Police Minister and Member for Morayfield Mark Ryan and Glasshouse State Member Andrew Powell joined local Councillors Adam Hain and Adrian Raedel on a community walk along the first 2.5km section of the newly opened Rail Trail.
Stage 2 works, worth $1.5million, are set to finish in June and will see the construction of a 2.5km shared pathway and a trailhead at Nasho’s Park in Wamuran.
The trailhead will include shelter, signage, lighting, seating, a drink fountain, a bicycle repair station and landscaping.
“This is about preserving the history of this region and encouraging people to actively enjoy it,” Councillor Adrian Raedel says.
“Not only will this be a great tourism asset but also provide safe access to Wamuran and Caboolture schools for children to get there safely.
“Additionally, it gives people a fresh experience – encouraging them to use it, be it cycling, jogging or walking.
“This project is about us showcasing our rich rail history of the old Caboolture to Kilcoy railway corridor, through an active and healthy way. It’s a great tourism drawcard.
“The sealed pathway connects to many local schools, providing a safe cycling and walking route. The trail also encourages our youth to get outdoors while at the same time appreciating our rich rail history.”
The final stage of works between Bluebell Park to County Drive will commence later this year.
