Bicycle Network reports that the Hepburn and Daylesford Shire Councils are again pushing for completion of this 44km rail trail.
Currently a 6km section is open, known as the Domino Rail Trail Click here for background detail.
The Hepburn Shire Council notes that
Visitors will be able to enjoy a variety of local produce outlets, mineral springs, cafes and wineries at Woodend, Daylesford and a number of interesting villages and points of interest dotted in between.
Cyclists will be able to conduct a return trip in a day from Woodend or Daylesford, or cycle one way, stay overnight at the end of the trail and return the next day. Alternatively, users may choose to ride or walk small sections of the trail. Staying at local villages visitors will experience the natural and cultural attractions along the way. Visitors could base themselves at one of the smaller villages and conduct shorter return trips over a two-three day period.
The proximity of the trail to Melbourne, beautiful scenery, range of food and wine options, as well as the natural and cultural attractions will all be key drivers in the success of the product from a tourism perspective.
Obviously community support is needed to encourage funding for this project.
Refer to the Bicycle Network page for ways to show this support.
