The Tourism Industry Council South Australia named the Riverland town Renmark, a three-hour drive from Adelaide, as this year’s Top Tourism Town.
The award recognises established tourism towns where a range of attractions, accommodation and visitor experiences already exist, particularly those with a population of over 5,000 people.
Renmark was noted for “offering the ultimate destination to relax and recharge, reconnect with nature and make memories that will last a lifetime”. Renmark is also the start point for the Renmark – Paringa Rail Trail.
Twenty towns were in competition for four awards: Top Tourism Town, Small Tourism Town, Tiny Tourism Town and the People’s Choice.
Wallaroo on the Yorke Peninsula took out two awards, winning both the Small Tourism Town award and the People’s Choice prize as the state’s favourite seaside destination.
The Copper Coast town won for its “many accommodation choices – where you’ll always be close to the sea and can enjoy a swim, water activities, fishing or simply feel the sand between your toes”. Wallaroo is the current end point for the Copper Coast Rail Trail.
