The City of Greater Bendigo are currently in the process of ensuring some of the older sections of Victoria’s O’Keefe Rail Trail receive some extra attention after the high-water events of 2022. Users and supporters of the trail commended Council on its quick response to repairing damaged bridges relatively soon after the flood events last year and trail users are again impressed with improved surfaces after some sections have already been completed.
Council is working to improve drainage and reduce soil erosion and at the moment work is continuing between Hodges Rd and Girls Rd Axedale. Please note the trail is not closed to riders but they are asked to follow warning/construction signs and taking care near working machinery. The preventative works now should minimise future storm events from causing severe damage to the trail. Thumbs up to City of Greater Bendigo for maintaining the trail and the Friends of the Bendigo Kilmore Rail Trail for their ongoing support and promotion of Council’s efforts.
