Register for news updatesCasino to Bentley Rail Trail (NSW) moves to Phase 2
The Richmond Valley Council received notice from the NSW state government to move to Phase 2 (detailed design and construction) of the Casino to Bentley section (Stage 2) of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail.
This comes hot on the heels after the announcement of the aceptance of the Tweed Valley Rail Trail section (Stage 1) and awarding of the contract to Hazel Bros [Qld] to build this section.
Unlike the Tweed Valley section, the construction will be carried out by council’s in-house road and constructions crews. This will eliminate the need for council to go through the tendering process from outside private contractors.
The Lismore City Council is in the process of sourcing government funding to build their section (Stage 3) – this will leave the Byron Council section (Stage 4) to be completed.
Hopefully the success of both the other sections of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail will see Byron Shire coming onboard and the completion of the entire length of the rail trail.
