Cootamundra to Tumblong Rail Trail on the move
At a meeting in late September 2020, Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) endorsed a budget allocation for landholder consultations along the proposed Cootamundra to Tumblong Rail Trail in southern NSW.
This action follows a unanimous CGRC vote in July to support the development of the Tumblong rail trail. CGRC is now applying for NSW State funding of $100,000 for a detailed trail development plan, which is the next step in the process.
These forward steps are a demonstration of renewed local community interest in the economic benefits that rail trails can bring, and they are supported by Rail Trails Australia.
The Tumblong rail trail would form part of an eastern Riverina trail network including Tumbarumba to Rosewood (opened in April 2020), Batlow to Tumut (planned) and Wagga Wagga to Ladysmith (planned).
