An urgent call for rail trail supporters to encourage the Snowy Monaro Regional Council (SMRC) to fund the Monaro Rail Trail development plans. Submissions close at midnight on Sunday 16 May.
Hi to all our Rail Trail Supporters! This is a very late but important call to you for your support to have your say on the draft budget of the Snowy Monaro Regional Council (SMRC) which has not specified funding of the Monaro Rail Trail development plans. Submissions close at midnight on Sunday 16 May.
While the SMRC budget shows support for the MRT, it has not specified the amount it will commit to continue the planning.
The MRT has been identified in several development strategies as a key component of tourism growth in the Monaro and local communities have expressed the importance of shared pathways for recreation and health.
The Friends of the Monaro Rail Trail have suggested that the SMRC include a privison of $90,000 in their 2021-22 Operational Plan and Budget to enable detailed planning of the Bombala-Jincumbilly and Minnitabel-Old Bombala Road sections of the Monaro Rail Trail Stage 1 to proceed.
Please consider reminding the council that the MRT is seen as a vital component of tourism diversirty on the Monaro.
