Plans for a rail trail in the NSW regional city of Goulburn are a step closer, after the Goulburn Mulwaree Council voted to support the rail trail proposal put forward by the Goulburn Rail Trail Steering Committee.
At its meeting on 19 September 2023, the Council endorsed the Goulburn Rail Trail Project and added it to the Council’s Priority Project list to assist with advocating for funding.
A rail trail in Goulburn was originally proposed some years ago to link Goulburn and Crookwell on the long-disused rail corridor. The current proposal from the Steering Committee is for a 10km rail trail within the Goulburn Mulwaree Council area linking Goulburn’s CBD and existing riverside paths to the initial section of the rail trail. The large steel lattice bridge across the Wollondilly River is included in the proposed rail trail.
