Grampians Rail Trail receives funding from Stawell Gold Mines to support flood damage restoration and reinforcement
Almost 12 months ago parts of Central Victoria were significantly impacted by flood events that caused major damage across a number of areas including Stawell where the Grampians Rail Trail is situated.
Thanks to funding that the Friends of the Grampian Rail Trail were able to secure from Stawell Gold Mines, a flood damaged 1km section of rail trail was repaired and fully reinstated in July 2023. The Stawell Gold Mine community grants program contributed to the installation of three floodways and building up of the bypass section around the remnants of a historic bridge which effectively eliminates flood damage and maintains a safe track for the public. Great to see the community-run and managed 11km Grampians Rail Trail receive this injection of funding and support.
The Friends of the Grampians Rail Trail, led for many years by John Pye, are hoping the trail will one day continue on to Halls Gap.
