Improved access to drinking water and a community bike repair station are two new additions to improve the user experience along the Great Victorian Rail Trail (GVRT).
In partnership with Friends of the GVRT and Murrindindi Shire Council, Goulburn Valley Water (GVW) has installed a new permanent hydration station at the Yea railway station precinct. The new unit will provide visitors and users of the GVRT access to free, fresh drinking water while enjoying time outdoors.
The station has been installed as part of GVW’s annual program to partner with community groups and councils to install water hydration stations in each of the towns supplied with drinking water by 2023. This adds to the existing hydration stations along the trail at Tallarook, Alexandra and Bonnie Doon.
Mansfield Shire Council has recently installed a bike repair station at the Mansfield end of the GVRT adjacent to the Visitor Information Centre which is already receiving lots of attention and use.
Council had identified several projects as part of their Outdoor Activation funding program and the need to enhance the beginning/end of the GVRT. Providing facilities to help users was high on the list with the installation of a permanent water hydration station to come as the warmer months approach.

We are currently riding the GVRT to re-visit the place we last rode 10 years ago!
It's an awesome trail that just keeps on getting better and so pleasing to see the number of trail users out there making the most of it. Full marks to Friends of the GVRT, Murrindindi and Mansfield Shire Councils for all the great work.
Victoria has some great Rail Trails. I have particularly enjoyed the Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail but it would be good if there could be some more signage through Wangaratta. I lost the rail trail going through Wangaratta in both directions.
