Mike Turtur Bikeway Receives More Funding
The South Australian State Government has provided funding for the City of Adelaide and Unley Council to undertake significant improvements to the inner-city section of the Mike Turtur Bikeway railside trail.
Adelaide City Council has received $500,000 to construct separated bike lanes along Peacock Rd at the start of the trail. The constricted 580m of shared path, between South Tce and Greenhill Rd, will be rebuilt to provide the improvement.
Meanwhile, Unley Council has received $3.6M to improve the shared path on the other side of Greenhill Rd. It may have just a 270 m section, but the project will require a significant reconfiguration of King William Rd, which has tram and bus stops, to avoid unduly hindering traffic flows.
It will be a difficult 12 months for Turtur Bikeway users, as the above projects will occur at the same time as the construction of the Marion Rd/Cross Rd tram and trail overpass and the Morphett Rd one, as well as the rebuilding of the South Rd overpass to make room for a motorway.
