Mike Turtur Rail Trail Overpass on hold
The $25m Goodwood Overpass Project, which will substantially improve access along the Mike Turtur rail trail by creating an overpass over the Adelaide to Melbourne rail line and Goodwood Railway Station, has been delayed yet again. At a recent meeting with the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, community groups were loud in expressing their concern regarding the proposed destruction of green space in Forestville Reserve, safety concerns and a lack of resident consultation.
The Minister has announced that the project would go ‘on hold’ pending further community consultation.
The project is more than a simple overpass as it involves substantial improvements to a very small parcel of land where a railway corridor intersects a tram corridor and two rail trails (Mike Turtur and Marino Rocks) cross. To further complicate things, the area is densely populated, includes a small tree lined local reserve, a creek and a swimming centre.
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport has commenced work on additional community consultation.
