Register for news updatesMike Turtur Bikeway gets a Lift
The Australian and South Australian governments have jointly (50:50) funded $200M to replace the tram level crossing at Morphett Rd with an overpass. While the overpass will substantially improve safety and reduce traffic congestion, cyclists will also benefit as the Mike Turtur Bikeway railside trail will be relocated to the overpass next to the tram line.
The tram line will be closed for between 6 and 9 months, with construction scheduled to start in 2025 and completion expected by January 2026. The project will be co-ordinated with other previously announced work along Adelaide’s busiest bike route to shorten the disruption for commuters. The Morphett Rd and Marion Rd/Cross Rd overpasses, as well as the South Rd overpass rebuild will be undertaken at the same time.
The construction of the overpasses will improve cycling safety and convenience as well as providing cyclists with three spots where the city and coast line can be viewed.
